UID System

Using the UID legislation (RS 431.01) as reference, the UID system comprises various participants and components. The system has been operating since the start of 2011 and is run by the FSO.

Overview of the system

The first group of participants consists of the enterprises and institutions, grouped together by UID entity denomination. The second group is represented by the UID services. This term applies to the Confederation, cantonal and communal administrative services, as well as the institutions of public law. The third participant, the FSO, is responsible for ensuring that the UID is correctly managed. To do so it keeps a business register (UID register). The UID register is accessible online for the fourth group of participants - the public - subject to certain data protection measures.
