Swiss Forestry Statistics 2019

With 4.6 million m3, a total of 11% less timber was harvested in 2019 than in the previous year. In 2018, the timber harvest increased significantly – as the result of a bark beetle infestation, a summer drought and winter storms. The timber harvest in 2019 thus reached the average value of the past few years (2015-2017). This development is also due to the decrease in the normal timber felling planned due to the use of storm-damaged timber and continued low timber prices. These are some of the findings from the Federal Statistical Office’s (FSO) Swiss Forestry Statistics and from the test forestry operations network run by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN).
