Secondary Sector Production, Orders and Turnover Statistics Two years of growth in secondary sector production

Secondary sector production in Switzerland declined by 0.6% in 4th quarter 2023

23.05.2019 - Secondary sector production (industry and construction) rose by 3.7% in 1st quarter 2019 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover rose by 3.2%. Consequently, the increase in production that began in 1st quarter 2017 continued. This is shown by provisional results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

In comparison with the previous year industrial production grew in January by 4.2%, in February by 3.7% and in March by 5.1%. For the whole of 1st quarter 2019 production increased by 4.3% in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier.

Construction production increased by 1.2% in 1st quarter 2019 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Production declined by 1.1% in building, civil engineering also registered a decline (–0.2%). Lastly, specialised construction activities registered an increase of 2.9% in their production.

3.6% rise in industrial turnover

Industrial turnover in January rose by 4.3% in comparison with the previous year, and in February (+2.5%) and in March (+4.1%). For the whole of 1st quarter 2019 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier, turnover registered an increase of 3.6%.

Construction turnover rose by 1.6% in 1st quarter 2019 in comparison with the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover fell by 1.1% in building, Civil engineering registered an increase of 0.7% and specialised construction activities increased by 3.4% too.
