Financial and mental health situation of students during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 In 2020, four out of ten students said they felt depressed more often than usual

24.11.2022 - The COVID-19 pandemic and its restrictions worsened the mental health of a large number of students at higher education institutions in 2020. Between 30% and 49% of students reported more symptoms related to depression and anxiety or a feeling of loneliness than in normal circumstances. The pandemic had not, however, affected most students' financial situation. Nevertheless, the situation of the most vulnerable groups worsened. In particular, students with a migration background and those studying Music, Theatre and other arts were the most affected. These are the results of the thematic report on the survey of higher education graduates conducted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
