Extra-family and extra-school childcare in 2018: new results 64% of children under the age of 13 in Switzerland in extra-family childcare

25.05.2020 - Grandparents as well as daycare centres and extra-school care facilities are the most frequently used forms of childcare, with each category accounting for a third of provision for children aged
0 to 12 years. 81% of families in large cities turned to extra-family care for their children compared with 66% of families in rural areas. Parents’ satisfaction with the care facilities is high but there is still unmet demand. These are the results from a new publication from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO). It offers an overview of the latest data available on extra-family and extra-school care in Switzerland.

You can find further information such as graphs in the press releases in German, French and Italian. The English version only contains the lead of the press release.
