Head of Division
The Staff Division (STAB) ensures the FSO’s planning and implementation as well as its strategic development. It is in charge of the Office’s political affairs. Furthermore, it is responsible for the Legal Services, and International and national affairs. The division also includes the Open Government Data Office. The latter is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the strategy for open government data in Switzerland 2019-2023, in close cooperation with the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA).
The Staff Division establishes the content-related and legal foundations for the FSO's future orientation and the further development of Switzerland's statistical system. In agreement with the board of management, it determines long-term aims; it defines planning and establishes the FSO as a national centre of excellence for official statistics, data management and data science. Together with external and internal partners, STAB formulates strategic guidelines, objectives and measures for the multi-annual programme for federal statistics (MJP).
In addition, the Staff Division is active in the FSO’s international cooperation, national cooperation and stakeholder management. The division defines strategies in these three areas, coordinates relevant action while ensuring their coherence and contributes to their realisation.

Head of Section
The Strategy and political affairs (SUP) is responsible for strategy formulation and the planning of its implementation. It develops the strategic foundations for the FSO's future orientation and the organisation of Switzerland's statistical system. It supports the Director General and the Board of Management in setting long-term aims and planning, as well as in establishing the FSO as a national centre of excellence for official statistics. Together with external and internal partners, the SUP section formulates strategic guidelines, objectives and measures for the multi-annual programme for federal statistics.
As an executive unit, SUP also provides support to management in all FSO affairs.

Head of Section
Legal service (RD) provides support for federal legislation in the area of statistics. The service advises and supports the Director General, the divisions and sections in all legal matters.
The legal service is also in charge of data protection and transparency.

Head of Section
The "International and national affairs" (INA) section defines the FSO's cooperation strategy on an international and national level, coordinates activities in relation to this and contributes to their realisation.
The INA section coordinates the FSO's international activities and ensures their consistency. The section maintains close contact with the main international organisations in the statistical field (UN, OECD, EU), ensures that Switzerland is represented in managerial committees, handles related dossiers, manages the bilateral agreement between Switzerland and the EU in the field of statistics and coordinates both bilateral relations and the technical cooperation.
The section supports the directorate and the board of management in this area, providing advice to the FSO as a whole and assuming liaison and coordination with the Confederation's administrative units linked with international statistics.

Head of Section
The Open Government Data Office (OGD) coordinates, in close cooperation with the Head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA), the implementation of the Open Government Data strategy approved by the Federal Council. The strategy foresees the systematic publication of public data in machine-readable format with open conditions of use (as Open Government Data) provided there is no legitimate protective interest opposing their publication.
The OGD office coordinates both centralised and decentralised activities intended to apply the strategy and supports data providers and users.

Head of Section
The Quality and processes service (QP) supports the Director General and the Board of Management in supervising the FSO’s activities in quality and process management. QP coordinates business management (GEVER) in accordance with the federal requirements and provides support in information management and documentation. QP carries out the required groundwork in the specified areas, provides training and advises the Director General, divisions and sections in their implementation. QP is also responsible for implementing the European Statistics Code of Practice within the FSO.
