Head of Division
The Data Science, AI and Statistical Methods (DSSM) division, in addition to the federal Data Science Competence Center (DSCC), which as a service provider offers services within the administration in the field of data science (Data Science as a Service, DSaaS), also includes the FSO’s competence center for statistical methods.
The DSSM division is in close contact with higher education and research institutions to promote the application of new findings and research methods in the administration. Furthermore, the Division is also involved in national and international research projects and holds internal and external courses in data science and statistical methods. The Division has long proven experience in providing services to the public sector and the federal and cantonal offices associated with the Swiss statistical system.

Head of Section
The Statistical Methods section (METH) is the FSO's competence center for statistical methods. The section's staff members advise the producers of statistics in the Federal Statistical Office and in other public institutions. The key focus of this advice is in the area of statistical methods for surveys: sample plans, random sampling, development of questionnaires and tests, estimation procedures, procedures for statistical data preparation and statistical analyses. The section is in close contact with higher education and research institutions to promote the application of new findings and research methods in the Federal Statistical Office. Furthermore, the section is also involved in national and international research projects and holds internal and external statistics courses.

The Data Science section and AI (DSAI) is the operational core of the federal Data Science Competence Center (DSCC). The section's staff are scientists, developers and business analysts with an excellent academic background in mathematics, statistics, data science, computer science, decision making and data engineering. They work at the crossroads between data science and artificial intelligence – they build skills and apply the appropriate methods, techniques and practices to obtain a new understanding and to improve decision making for the public good.
The DSAI section is in close contact with higher education and research institutions to promote the application of new findings and research methods in the administration. Furthermore, the section is also involved in national and international research projects and holds internal and external courses on data science methods, techniques, practices and the required (IT) technologies and tools.
