The Communication and Publishing (KOM/PUB) division is in charge of the communication, publication and dissemination of FSO statistical information, of topic management and provides the FSO's language services.
It is responsible for all aspects of the FSO’s integrated communication, promoting awareness and understanding of how official statistics works. It maintains contact with the media, runs the Office's newsroom and coordinates the publication of press releases. It is also tasked with ensuring the development of the instruments and processes necessary to disseminate all of the statistical information produced by the Office.
The Media Office Section (MEDIA) is responsible for all of the FSO's external and internal communication. It advises members of the Board of Management and the specialist sections, coordinates the publication of some 130 press releases every year and responds to media enquiries. It also ensures that the Code of Practice is correctly applied and the principles of independence, integrity and accountability are respected. MEDIA covers all communication efforts aimed at promoting the FSO's image internally (among staff and services) and externally (among users and partners).
The section represents the FSO at fairs and exhibitions and is also responsible for press conferences. It also maintains close contact with other communication units within the Confederation, especially those within the Federal Department of Home Affairs.
The task of the Publishing and Dissemination Section (PUB) is to compile statistical information and data in an efficient, targeted, timely and user-friendly manner and to make it available to the public. In particular, the section is responsible for drafting, developing, implementing and maintaining various modern diffusion systems that are used throughout the Office, as well as for planning, technical advice to the publishing sections and dissemination partners, setting standards and the final quality control of all FSO publications. It also keeps abreast of international trends and activities to ensure that the dissemination of statistics is of a high standard.
The Language Services (LING) are the FSO's centre of linguistic excellence. They provide the FSO with translations in Switzerland' official languages as well as English and when necessary in additional languages. They support the Office in implementing its information mission, in fulfilling its commitment to multilingualism and in meeting its international obligations, contributing thereby to understanding among cultures.
The Topic Management Section (THEMA) plans and coordinates FSO topics of relevance to the public, monitors public discourse and produces relevant content. It supports the FSO in delivering its message, providing various tools and producing communication material as required. The Topic Management Section is responsible for the editorial content of the Office's flagship publications (Statistical Yearbook of Switzerland, Pocket Statistics, Switzerland in 23 Infographics, etc.). The section is also responsible for the FSO's output planning.
