Peer reviews are an important element of the European Statistics System’s strategy and their purpose is to ensure that the Code of Practice is applied so as to improve the integrity, impartiality and responsibility of statistical services. The first cycle of peer reviews took place in 2006-2008, followed by a second one in 2014-2015. EU and EFTA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) member states all took part.
Eurostat published on its website an experts’ report on the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) and the Swiss Statistics System. This compliance report reflects very positively on Swiss official statistics and recognises the professional quality of its institutions.
The FSO is in agreement with the majority of the experts’ recommendations and sees them as a sign of encouragement to continue with the policy of improving Swiss official statistics. To this end, the FSO has drawn up a series of measures intended to promote the implementation of the peer recommendations to the FSO and among other producers of European statistics in Switzerland. These improvement actions have also been published on Eurostat's website.
