Expert groups currently exist for the following topics:

Tasks of the individual expert groups:
- Advising the producers of federal statistics on specific matters
- Giving their opinion on their subject matter and projects related to it
- Exchange of ideas among members
Legal framework
Article 6 of the Ordinance on the Organisation of Federal Statistics stipulates that the Federal Council may make use of expert groups for advice on specific statistical questions made by the producers of federal statistics.
Structure
The expert groups comprise a maximum of 20 representatives from the Confederation, the Swiss National Bank, the cantons and communes, the scientific community and the economy, as well as the social partners. The presidency is usually held by someone outside the FSO.
