Open day at the Federal Statistical Office Open Day: the FSO opens its doors on 28 August 2021

19.08.2021 - On Saturday 28 August 2021, the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) is inviting the public to come and discover the role of official statistics, particularly in the measurement of sustainable development. Stands, guided visits of the building, an exhibition, music, food, and games are planned. Those wishing to attend must bring ID and a COVID certificate (full vaccination, recovery or negative PCR/antigen test) to gain access to the FSO premises in Neuchâtel.

Throughout the day, the FSO will give visitors the opportunity to discover the importance of official statistics, which are essential in the measuring of, among other things, sustainable development. The United Nations 2030 Agenda and its 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) will be presented in detail, with specialists on hand to answer questions.

From 10am, FSO members of staff will present their work at 17 stands structured around the SDGs. The public can learn how statistics are made, what the key indicators are for measuring progress and how official statistics contribute to evidence-based decision making. All aspects of sustainable development, from education to climate change and gender equality, will be presented through our stands. A quiz, fun activities, the creation of a statistic of the day, a poetry slam and an exhibition of the 20 best entries to our #SDGvizAward2021 competition await visitors to the FSO!

Visitors will be able to discover the inside of the FSO by guided visits of the building. Weather permitting, refreshments will be served on the roof terrace, accompanied by music and an unobstructed view of the lake and the Alps. Four caterers from the region will provide vegetarian dishes made from local produce.

Outside the FSO, visitors will find our SDG gas-run car and the SDG wheel to try their luck with our SDG game! Visitors can test their knowledge and leave with some of our chocolate, juice and other prizes!

To enter the FSO buildings, ID and a COVID certificate for over-16s must be shown. The certificate can be obtained after full vaccination, recovery from COVID-19 or after a negative PCR or antigen test. Visitors will then be allowed to move freely in the FSO, without a mask or social distancing. Disinfectant gel will of course be available. For more information about the COVID certificate, please go to the Federal Office of Public Health website.
