Swiss Health Survey 1992-2017: Contraception in Switzerland Women use the contraceptive pill less and less

22.02.2021 - In 2017, about two out of three persons in Switzerland used one or more contraceptive methods. Condoms (42%) and the pill (31%) were used most often. In 1992, more than half of women who used contraception took the pill (52%). A shift away from the pill to other hormonal contraceptive methods was thus seen. Compared with other countries, the use of condoms in Switzerland is high although their use by young men has decreased since 2007. These are some of the findings of the Swiss Health Survey 2017 (SHS) conducted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
