Social assistance rate

Definition

The financial social assistance rate shows the share of people receiving financial social support during the year of the survey, compared with the whole of the permanent resident population, according to STATPOP data from the previous year.

The social assistance rate in the broader sense shows the share of people who received financial support from financial social assistance or other means-tested social benefits granted by the cantons during the year of the survey, compared with the whole permanent resident population, according to STATPOP data from the previous year.

The social assistance rate in the context of refugees shows the proportion of refugees receiving financial assistance during the year of the survey, compared with the entire number of these people in the Swiss population from the same year.

The social assistance rate in the context of asylum shows the proportion of asylum seekers and temporarily admitted persons (F permit) residing for less than 7 years in Switzerland and who received financial assistance during the year of the survey, compared with the entire number of people who made up the asylum base universe from the same year.
