Definition
In the method of stratification, the transactions are divided into individual subgroups, so-called layers or strata. Stratification means that heterogeneity is reduced and a quality adjustment is carried out along the selected stratification criteria. Sub-indices (or elementary indices) are calculated for all sub-categories. They are then weighted and aggregated to a main index. In the case of the property price index, transactions are structured by two variables: the type of property and the type of commune.
