Definition
An economic indicator is a macroeconomic key figure that allows statements to be made about the economic development or the economic situation of an economy. Economic indicators can be used as a basis for economic forecasting.
The residential property price index (IMPI) is in particular used:
- To monitor financial market stability
- For the Swiss National Bank's monetary policy
- As a basis for decisions on real estate purchases
- In research and analysis
- In other areas of official statistics (the national accounts, for example)
- In international comparison.
