Combined transport

A type of goods transport in which goods are transported by successive modes of transport (e.g. road and rail) in one and the same intermodal transport unit. In accompanied combined transport, entire lorries or articulated vehicles (road tractors with semi-trailers) are transported by train (rolling motorway) or ship (roll on/roll off cargo). In unaccompanied combined transport, only the loading units (containers or swap bodies, etc.) or semi-trailers are transshipped.
