Social assistance rate fell to 3.1% in the second pandemic year 2021 due to fewer new recipients

23.12.2019 - In 2018, 274 200 persons in Switzerland received social assistance in the form of a financial benefit on at least one occasion. Both the number of social assistance recipients and the social assistance rate thus fell for the first time since 2008. Of all cases with a benefit withdrawal, 49 000 persons were able to leave social assistance, corresponding to a share of 27.9%. This leaving rate has been calculated in the current reporting year for the first time. These are some of the findings from the current Swiss Social Assistance Statistics conducted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
