House-building activity in 4th quarter 2012 Very strong increase in dwellings with planning permission

Neuchâtel, 15.04.2013 (FSO) - According to provisional results from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), 12,250 new dwellings were built in Switzerland in the 4th quarter 2012. This represents a 12% decrease in the number of new dwellings compared with the same quarter a year earlier. At the end of December 2012, some 75,600 dwellings were under construction, which corresponds to a 12.5% increase year-on-year. The number of dwellings with planning permission increased by 71% compared with the same quarter a year earlier, to 22,260 units.
