House-building activity in 2nd quarter 2012 Decline in number of newly built dwellings

Neuchâtel, 07.09.2012 (FSO) - According to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), from April to June 2012 the number of newly built dwellings decreased by 8% compared with the same quarter a year earlier, to 10,650 units. At the end of June 2012, 74,040 dwellings were under construction, which corresponds to a 6% increase year-on-year. 15,010 new dwellings were given planning permission in Switzerland in the 2nd quarter of 2012. This corresponds to a decline of 10% compared with the same quarter a year earlier.
