House-building activity in 1st quarter 2012 Decline in dwellings with planning permission

Neuchâtel, 11.06.2012 (FSO) - According to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), the number of dwellings with planning permission fell by 11% in the 1st quarter of 2012 compared with the same quarter a year earlier, to 12,260 units. In the first three months, 8910 new dwellings were built in Switzerland. This corresponds to a decline of just under 4% compared with the same quarter a year earlier. At the end of March 2012, some 69,760 dwellings were under construction, which corresponds to a 3% increase year-on-year.
