A low wage corresponds to two thirds of a median standardised gross wage. The proportion of persons earning a low wage, i.e. a gross monthly wage of less than CHF 3986 for 40 working hours per week, varies significantly depending on gender: in 2010 in the private and public (Confederation) sectors combined, 6.9% of men compared with 19.1% of women were low-wage earners.
1.1% of men working full-time had a net monthly wage of no more than CHF 3000, compared with 5.2% of women working full-time.
