Gender equality – Data, indicatorsEducational attainment

The percentage of women aged 25 to 64 without post-compulsory education is markedly higher than that of men of the same age (women: 17.4% vs. men: 11.1% in 2010). The difference between the sexes is particularly prominent at the tertiary level. At the university level, the graduation rate is continually rising for both sexes and the gender gap is narrowing. But women are still significantly under-represented in technical and scientific fields.

Educational differences between the sexes have been slightly narrowing over time. The proportion of people without post-compulsory education has decreased, in particular among women. Nowadays, more women complete a higher vocational training. Both the shares of women and of men with a university education have increased markedly. Although there is still a gap between women and men, the proportion of women with a university degree has increased significantly.
