Gender equality Data, indicatorsOccupational position
Women are generally employed in lower positions than men: they are more often in non-management positions. Men are much more often self-employed or employed in a managerial position or with a supervisory function. This inequality exists even between men and women with the same educational level. This is in all likelihood attributable to the fact that women have family and household responsibilities that limit their professional flexibility and leave them fewer opportunities to gain professional experience.
Statements about the temporal evolution of the occupational position of women and men are not possible due to changes in the method of collecting data on employees with supervisory function and in managerial positions (see comments in the table).
