Employment and workweek – IndicatorsIntroduction

Key Data first shows figures for employed persons and jobs, which are two different notions since it is conceivable for an employed person to hold several jobs (job = filled position) In addition to providing a general overview of the employment situation, Key Data can also be used, for example, to produce a sector-based distribution or determine the level of part-time employment.

Key Data has a section devoted to activity rate, a measure of labour market participation by the population. Here, emphasis is placed not only on differences between gender and age groups but also on activity rate trajectories: The forecasts for 2010-2060 are based on various demographic scenarios.

Finally, Key Data focuses on labour force flows (transition to and from employment, labour migration) and working hours (normal working hours, actual hours worked, overtime, absences).
