1) The marital status "unmarried" is the result of a declaration of invalidity of a previous union or a declaration of disappearance of the previous partner.

From 2010: New definition of the permanent resident population, which also includes asylum seekers with a total length of stay of at least 12 months.

The number of divorced persons has tripled since 1980, whereas the number of those single, married or widowed has increased regularly (+18,3%). Compared to the total population, there are slightly fewer single or married persons than in 1980 and about the same number of widowed. For its part, the proportion of divorced persons has increased from 3,1% to 7,6% since 1980.
