First audit of the France-Vaud-Geneva conurbation
Neuchâtel, Bern, Geneva and Lyon, 24.06.2010 (FSO, ARE, OCSTAT, INSEE) - The first cross-border Urban Audit has been conducted in the France-Vaud-Geneva conurbation. With 802,000 inhabitants, this area is modest in size in European comparison, but stands out due to its demographic pattern and its young population. Its cosmopolitan character and high employment rate can be ascribed more to the Swiss part, whereas the relatively large proportion of families with young children as well as house owners is due rather to the French part. This cross-border Urban Audit (2006) was carried out by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) and the Cantonal Statistics Office Geneva (OCSTAT), in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE, Lyon) and the Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE).
