Enquiries, Sources – 03 - Work Volume Statistics (WV)Overview

Short description Gathered since 1991, Work Volume Statistics (WV) present a total of effective working hours, normal working hours, absence hours and overtime hours. Effective volume of work includes all hours effectively spent working as defined in the national accounts. In particular, this volume is used to calculate national productivity.

Type of enquiry Summary statistics. The Swiss Labour Force Survey (SLFS) is the main source used to compile WV. In order to calculate the volume of work according to the domestic concept, information is drawn from other sources such as the Central Information Service on Migration (CISM). Finally, for certain types of absences, information is drawn from other sources, such as statistics from the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) on reduced work schedules, strikes and lock-outs.

Statistical quality of data Margin of error cannot be estimated because WV are compiled from various sources. However, published tables are not as detailed since one survey (SLFS) was used as the main source for WV (e.g. economic branches up to 1st level of NOGA only).
