Statistics for research

The Federal Statistical Office carries out  important tasks for research and education in Swiss universities, Swiss universities of applied sciences and international research relating to Switzerland:

• The FSO works closely with FORS, the Swiss Foundation for Research in Social Sciences, in particular with its COMPASS portal (Communication Portal for Accessing Social Statistics), in order to make its official statistics micro data available to social science researchers. The available databases and the corresponding documentation are listed in a catalogue and can be ordered over the COMPASS web portal from the FSO
  
  
• The FSO enables researchers to use official statistics microdata for their own research projects.
  
  
• The FSO furthers research by taking representative samples and offering advice on methodology.
  
  
• The FSO works with researchers to analyse data and conduct research projects relating to statistical methodology.
