The new Swiss Statistics Web Site is part of an overall strategy to make greater use of the Internet as a source of information, to publish user-specific documents and to capitalize on the SFSO’s years of experience with the Internet.
According to this strategy, the new Swiss Statistics Web Site should:
- Act as a central information platform enabling SFSO publications and data to be distributed over the Internet, key findings to be published more quickly and hardcopy publications to eventually be replaced by electronic ones.
- Present information in a clearly structured and user-specific manner, achieved by means of a user-friendly Web site navigation system. Starting on 1 January 2004, the Swiss Statistics Web Site will also be handicapped-accessible in order to comply with legislation.
- Encourage closer cooperation between the various statistical agencies at the federal, cantonal and communal levels in Switzerland by providing access to their Web sites and content.
- Enable clear workflows and decentralized editing of content both within the SFSO and outside it (other federal agencies and regional statistical offices) so that synergies can be created.
- Make use of a browser-based content management system (CMS) and dynamic Web pages (as well as the CODAM Datawarehouse, once the project has been completed).
