The demand for statistical information is continually growing. The “Swiss Statistics” portal, run by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), meets this demand using the latest technology available. In November 2005 – just one year after it was launched - our portal was awarded the “Eugen” Prize for the Swiss Confederation’s best website. This is a good indication of how much our users appreciate what we have to offer.
The statistics portal addresses two main challenges faced by official statistics providers:
- The portal is an important and necessary step in our changeover strategy away from conventional print publications and towards increasingly popular online information. Statistical information is more complete, easier to find and better structured when it is available on the internet.
- As the term “portal” indicates, important statistical information on Switzerland is located on a central platform accessible at a single address. The “Swiss Statistics” portal is therefore not only the Federal Statistical Office’s (FSO) information platform but also that of other statistical bodies at the federal, cantonal and municipal level.
